This live event platform allows Start – Ups to have direct access to potential investors who can take their business ventures
to the next level. Investors consider offers to invest their money and start-ups are given opportunity to pitch and negotiate
their business ventures. The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce is not liable or legally responsible of any type
of agreement or contract between the investor and the start-up.
HISPANIC SHARK TANK will take place at the 39th CHCC Annual Convention in Los Angeles, CA – The L.A. Grand Hotel Downtown
on Thursday, August 23,2018 at 3:30 PM. Participating Start-ups will be awarded complimentary full – day passes to the Annual Convention.
Transportation and accommodations will not be subsidized.

Jesus has been an innovation-driven entrepreneur for nearly 40 years mainly in Southern California and in other major cities in the Southwest and Mexico. He is a passionate advocate of accelerating the growth of the Latino entrepreneurial community and family financial wealth. He views himself as an ‘eclectic catalyst’ designing and scaling entrepreneurial ecosystems and linking them to local engines of economic development. With his visionary leadership and a seasoned execution team, Arguelles Capital Advisory and Afina Consulting, the latter the firm’s enterprise growth strategy advisory and executive coaching unit, have worked with nearly 1,000 private, public and non-profit clients and raised half of billion dollars in debt and equity capital leading to thousands of job creation/retention, increased household median incomes and healthier communities. This type of financing is referred to as social impact investing or the triple bottom line financing approach to enterprise and community revitalization sustainability. Verdis Advisory focuses on providing counsel and coaching to “indies” on initiating, pivoting and growing lasting and high value concerns in the cannabis space.
Carmen is an Investment Partner at MiLA.vc, an accelerator and venture capital fund that invests in technology-enabled hardware, e.g., Internet of Things, robotics, wearables, Industry 4.0, frontier tech. Carmen’s focus at MiLA.vc is coaching entrepreneurs on finance and strategic planning; and managing venture fund operations. She was formerly Vice President at Dimensional Fund Advisors, where she scaled operations into new markets including Latin America, Canada, and Europe
Carmen has an MBA from Berkeley-Haas, an MA in sports management from USF, and a BA in economics from USC. She is a board member of CCEO YouthBuild, and on the advisory board at Santa Monica City College’s Business Department and Insikt, a venture capital backed Fintech startup. Carmen chairs the NextGen Latino’s initiative for the LA Latino Chamber of Commerce and is an Aspen Institute Ricardo Salinas Scholar.
Joncarlo Mark is the Founder of Upwelling Capital Group LLC, a California-based boutique investment advisor that provides services and capital solutions to premier institutional investors. Clients include endowments, foundations, family offices and a broad set of global investment organizations.
Prior to forming Upwelling in 2011, Mr. Mark was a Senior Portfolio Manager at the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), where he was responsible for investing in global private equity partnerships and direct investments, with a portfolio that exceeded $48 billion of exposure. In addition, from 2007 to 2010, Mr. Mark served as chairman of the board for the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), whose 350 institutional members manage over $1 trillion in private equity assets. Prior to joining CalPERS in 1999, Mr. Mark spent six years with Premier Farnell PLC.
Mr. Mark currently serves as an executive trustee of the University of California Davis Foundation and is chairman of the Finance and Investment Committee. From 2012 to 2018, he was on the board of AltExchange Alliance, an industry body chartered to define, maintain and promote a single data standard for the private equity industry.
Mr. Mark earned an MBA from the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis and received a BA from the University of California, San Diego. He also holds Series 62, 63 and 65 FINRA securities licenses.
